High Dynamic Range Images
(HDRI)
usual computer images offer a color-code (amounts of red, green and blue) for each pixel, yet they are limited to a certain maximum value. HDR Images however allow it to overcome these limitations and define extra-high values.

In Computer Graphics those images can now be used to illuminate a scene by letting the scene be sourrounded by the HDRI. This gives the result an extra-real look since in the real world light rays of variouse colors will come from literally all around and hit objects too.
